Gender Clinics (St. Louis Metro)

The Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital - Offers the only multidisciplinary care available to children and adolescents in the St. Louis region who identify as a gender different from the sex they were assigned at birth. The Center’s physicians, nurses, therapists and support staff are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive and welcoming environment in which transgender people may receive the education, medical assistance and mental-health counseling they need to make decisions that will impact their well-being throughout their lives.
Service commitment:
Providing personalized, multidisciplinary care that addresses each individual’s unique needs, and ensuring that care is confidential
Promoting an accepting and respectful environment, including using preferred (use) names and pronouns
SERVICES
Mental health counseling
Education regarding gender dysphoria and possible treatments
Administering pubertal blockers
Administering cross sex (gender-affirming) hormones
Voice therapy to achieve gender-consistent speech
Counseling to determine individual transitional plan
Referral for parents to community resources and support groups
Referral to surgeons with particular expertise in gender affirmation surgery
Support letters for gender marker and name change and legal referrals

The Transgender Center accepts self-referrals or referrals from physicians and mental health providers. Patients are seen Tuesday afternoons at the Children’s Specialty Care Center in west St. Louis County at Mason Road and Interstate 64 and Wednesday mornings at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
